White Bear Lake’s Shortest Marathon 2014

Mueller Memorial • October 15, 2014

On September 27 th Mueller Memorial once again sponsored the third annual running of White Bear Lake’s Shortest Marathon supporting the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf.

This is no ordinary marathon, which would normally require months of training and discipline to complete a 26 mile and 385 yard course. No, this course is one city block.

To get the runners the energy they need to sustain them for the length of the race, Mueller Memorial was happy to once again provide the prerace carbo-load in the form of 650 White Castle hamburgers.

According to Gloria Carpenter, the event organizer, this year the marathon raised $12,850 for the Food Shelf with nearly 350 participants. This fun event provides a serious donation to an organization committed to helping those of our community who are in need.

The Food Shelf’s statistics are impressive. During this last year, because of their efforts, on average 308 families were served each month, 11,385 individuals were served throughout the year, 200,879 meals were provided, and 256,477 pounds of food were distributed.

Mueller Memorial is honored to again take part in this exciting and important event. If you’d like to participate in the “marathon” next year or want more info visit WhiteBearFoodShelf.org
