Shirley Wagner

December 27, 1929 — November 6, 2023

Shirley Mae Wagner died on Monday, November 6, 2023 at an early age of 93, one month short of her 94th. She was born 27 December 1929 to Tom and Viola Williams.

She graduated from Mechanic Arts High School where she met and married her high school boyfriend, Ed. They were married on May 15, 1948 and started to produce their seven children at a rapid pace. They eventually moved to the East Side of St Paul where they spent many years there growing the family and also met their lifelong friends. Shirley was the only child so when her parents could no longer care for themselves, Ed and Shirley moved to Oakdale to accommodate her aging parents. Shortly after this move, Ed, Shirley and a daughter were involved in a car accident that took Ed's life in September of 1978. After many years living in Oakdale by herself, she moved to Woodbury where she lived until her children moved her to an independent living home in Maplewood.

Shirley was a quilter, sewer, part time golfer, gardener, and world traveler. She spent her winters in Florida for many years. She was always on the go but always had time for her grandchildren. She is survived by Ed Jr (Annette) FL; Karen (Tim) Lake Elmo; Tom; Lynn (Steve) Eagan; Rick (Carol) Lino Lakes; Nancee (Craig), Arizona. Preceded in death by daughter Judith.

She leaves behind 19 grandchildren, all were able to visit her before she passed, 36 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

She fought hard up to the end, she was not ready to leave this world yet. She will be missed.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 28, at the Church of St. Peter, 2600 Margaret St N, North St Paul, MN 55109, with visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of the mass. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemtery immediately following the mass.

Luncheon immediately following the burial at Ft. Snelling.  Those wishing not to attend the burial, may head directly to the luncheon. Luncheon will be held at DeGidio's Restaurant, 425 West 7th Street, St. Paul, MN.   The Italian restaurant was requested by Shirley, as she always considered herself Italian by association!
