Passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Nov. 20, 1941, in Mpls, MN, to Lewis and Anna Bergstrom, Bob pursued his passion for education studying at the University of MN, Mankato State University, and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. His dedication to teaching spanned over 50 years, primarily at Willow Lane Elementary School where he profoundly impacted generations of students and families. Even after retiring in 1999, Bob continued to share his love of learning as a substitute teacher at Sunrise Middle School.

Bob was also a lifelong athlete and sports enthusiast. An avid softball player, he competed well into his late 70s, playing until 2020. He played tennis in college and later coached tennis and boys' and girls' hockey. His involvement extended to officiating football, basketball, and hockey games and working with the WBL High School hockey association and the WBL Rec Dept.

Known affectionately as "Bergey" or "Mr. B," Bob was an amazing storyteller who brought people together with his kindness and memorable laugh. He enjoyed fishing, attending concerts, playing cribbage, and relaxing with a glass of Irish whiskey. Above all, he cherished time with loved ones and never missed an opportunity to share a story or make someone smile.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bergstrom; his parents; and his 11 siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Kope; his son, Tim Bergstrom; his grandchildren Helen Kope (Jack), Taylor Kope, Lukas Bergstrom (Ellie), and Brennan Bergstrom; as well as many extended family members, former students, colleagues, teammates, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Kellerman's in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Guests are encouraged to share stories in Bob's honor. In lieu of flowers, contributions toward the celebration of life and a scholarship in Bob's memory will be welcomed through an upcoming GoFundMe.
