Dick and Shirley owned Hoffmanâs Market in Gem Lake. Even though he had young children, Dick enlisted in the Army and was a WWII veteran. He was a long time member of the Saint Mary of the Lake Cleaning Crew. He enjoyed many things such as dancing, especially the old time dances like polka and waltz; skiing, being well known as the skiing grandpa at Trollhaugen; and most importantly he enjoyed his time with the coffee crew at McDonalds, where he was known as the chairman and regulated conversation where all was allowed except politics and religion. He loved God and his family and will be remembered as a wonderful dad, grandpa, and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
