On Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, Michelle "Showdy" Fibison, loving wife, mother of two, and grandmother of three, passed away at the age of 61 after a year and a half long battle with ovarian cancer.
Michelle Maxine Guenther was born on May 23, 1961 to Gerald and Arlene (Kraemer) Guenther. She lived in Minnesota her entire life: born in St Paul, grew up in Little Canada, and lived in Maplewood for most of her adult years. She attended Frank B. Kellogg High School and married Jerome Allen Fibison on May 26, 1979 at St Mark's Church in North St Paul. Together, they had two daughters, Jolene and Janelle. While raising the girls, Showdy attended St Paul Tech for painting and started an interior painting business with her sister, Kathi. She switched careers in the early 2000s and worked in both the retail and hospitality industries following. Later in life, she was gifted with three grandchildren: Karter, Kaelynd, and Harper.
For anyone who knows Showdy well, you know that she was a devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. She loved her family so much and truly was the glue that kept them so bonded. She was a social butterfly - always hosting family holidays (some of the family favorites include baking Christmas cookies each December with all of the aunts and cousins and having a big celebration every Fourth of July), she was extremely creative - always making, crafting, or painting something (her last project was making quilts for loved ones), she was incredibly hard-working and took her most important job of mom and grandma the most seriously. She helped raise all three of her grandkids and was the best ma'ama/gramma they could ask for. She will be missed beyond measure.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 17th, 2022, at the North St Paul VFW Post 1350 from 1pm to 8pm - please bring a dish to share if you are able. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to a GoFundMe account to help the family with any financial burdens - www.gofundme.com/f/
