Merton Miller

November 27, 1934 — April 30, 2024

Merton Henry Miller, 89, of Twin Lakes passed away on April 30, 2024 with his family at his side.

Merton was the son of Ferdinand and Henrietta Miller, born in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa on Nov 27, 1934. At a young age, his parents moved the family to a farm west of Twin Lakes, MN and he attended Country School 43 and Emmons high school. Mert was drafted and served his country in the US Army from Nov, 1957 - Nov 1959. One of his service duties was during the Alaska Statehood festivities.

He always had a project going whether it was woodworking; tinkering with cars to which he fully restored a 1957 Chevy Bel Aire and took part in many car shows receiving many trophies; renovating toy tractors and pedal tractors; and tending to the lawn and garden. He was a charter member of the Twin Lakes Fire Dept and served for 50 years, which included time as the fire chief. His employment years were spent at Miller Builders, Dairyland/Interstate Power, Progress Castings, and Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mert and Edith (Gordon) were married on June 19, 1965. They were blessed with 3 children: Julie (Larry) Coble; Jill (Doug) Lee, and Mark M. Miller. Three grandsons: Casey, Nick, and Gavin were very special to Grandpa. Also surviving Mert is his brother Howard (Dorothy) Miller and 6 nieces and nephews. In-laws include Ellen(Verne) Hanson, Duane Gordon, Dennis (Ruth) Gordon, Jeffrey (Marjean) Gordon, Mary Jo (Shane) Metz and 16 nieces and nephews.

Mert was very much a "people" person, as he could go almost anywhere and there would be a connection with someone. He did not have a problem striking up conversation with anyone either. This could also be witnessed as he was a church usher for many years.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Ervin (Mary) Miller, In-laws Nels and Rosamond Gordon, Diane (Jack) Van Horn, Joyce Cermak, Kevin Gordon, and Joanne Gordon.

A memorial service will be held June 22, 2024 at the Assemblies of God Church, 1540 South Shore Dr, Albert Lea MN. Visitation with the family at 10am, service at 11am, and light lunch to follow.
