Mary Elizabeth Schacker (Hart)
Mary Schacker passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2026 at the age of 99. She was born on October 1, 1926, in Gettysburg South Dakota to Loretta and Glenn Hart. She received her nursing degree from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota where she also met her husband of 71 years James Schacker. She will be remembered for her ability to find the humor in everything, the joy she brought to every conversation, and her passion for family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a strong supporter of people in need and together with her husband provided resources to build an obstetrics unit at the Gary Holmes Hospital in Kampala, Uganda and Our Lady of Namulenga High School in the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Malawi. She and her husband also supported the St. Paul Seminary and the Catholic Community Foundation and over the years provided dozens of scholarships to Twin Cities catholic high schools and support for the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlin, South Dakota. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Christine and son, Timothy (Kristin) as well as 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James and her son, Gregory. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 14 at 11 AM at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 4741 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, Minnesota with visitation one hour before in the church lobby. Interment will be at St. Mary of the Lake cemetery in White Bear Lake. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local women's shelter, Catholic Charities, or St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlin South Dakota.
