Marsha D. Banovetz

September 28, 1939 — May 30, 2025

Marsha D. Banovetz, 85, of Ely, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at M Hospital Fairview Southdale in Edina, MN.

Marsha was born in Ely, MN on September, 28, 1939 to Frank and Martha (Milkovich) Banovetz. She was a proud graduate of Ely High School, Class of 1957 and attended the University of Minnesota, where she was active with the Newman Center. She moved to the San Francisco Bay area, beginning her career in the Cargo department of United Airlines, primarily focused on the Pacific region. This had her traveling often to both domestic and international locations, with Hawaii being a favorite destination. In addition to her time in the airline industry, Marsha also managed the china and crystal department at the San Francisco Macy's and was a computer instructor for Caterpillar. During this time, Marsha also served on the board of fraternal organization North American Benefit Association (NABA). She returned to Minnesota during the late 1990's to care for her aging mother and worked as a computer instructor for Caterpillar, traveling across the country, until her retirement. She remained in the St. Paul area before returning to Ely several years ago.

Spending time with family, friends and friends who are family was very important to Marsha. Food, gardening and traveling (naturally) were some of her favorite hobbies. She was proud of her Slovenian and Croatian heritage, whether it was listening to the music, participating with the Slovenian Club, or enjoying the cultural foods, such as poticia. Being able to combine those was something she enjoyed. Marsha also loved to tell stories about her experiences in life - travel, work, family get togethers, and ways she tended to mispronounce words and acronym.

Marsha is survived by brother, Franklin (Linda) Banovetz; nieces & nephews, Martha Glum, Michael (Angela) Glum, Jennifer (Paul) Banovetz-Bastian, and David (Kelly) Banovetz; great niece & nephew, Leigha Glum and Zachary Glum; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Martha and her sister Lorretta.

Celebrations of Marsha's life will occur both in St. Paul and Ely.
