Listen to Obituary

Marianne Trusten was born on August 11th, 1960. She was adopted by James and Rosemary Lorenz as a newborn and grew up in St. Paul, MN with her parents and siblings. Marianne joined both parents in the Heavens on June 3rd, 2026. Marianne is survived by her siblings, Joseph Lorenz and Nicole Schreyeck (children Alex Rockwell Lorenz and Melissa Fetterhoff), Joanne and Greg Waldt (child Michael Waldt), Mark and Valerie Lorenz (children Preston and Teegan), Margaret and Brian Pillar (Crystal Lorenz-Wurl and Brian Jr), her own children Paul Trusten and Amy Vanguilder, James Trusten, Stephanie Trusten and Matthew Trusten and Maria Venable. Lastly, she adored and admired her eight grandchildren, Jacob Kapaun, Alyssa Kapaun, Apollo Nerios, Amelia Nerios, Logan Vanguilder, Sawyer Trusten, Antonio Nerios V and Brielle Nerios.

Marianne was always a family-oriented person. She loved her siblings and she loved being a sister. She would spend days teaching and making bread with her younger sister Mari and she was often visiting her other siblings, whether they lived a city away or several states away. She cherished those important interactions.

She was always her kids, and grandkids, #1 fan. If there was a surgery, she wanted to be there. If there was a graduation, she wanted to be there. If there was a birthday, she was going to be there. It didn’t matter what the event was, she was going to be there, if invited. There was nothing on this planet that mattered as much as the children or the grandchildren, but ice cream followed close behind.

Marianne’s passions outside of her family were gardening and crafting. Mark Twain wrote, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Marianne did that with her knitting and sewing. She undersold all of her mittens, hats, doll clothing, pot holders, washcloths, whatever it was - she undersold it and sold out, at every market she worked. She always said the point was to make affordable items for people. Marianne, although quiet and reserved, used those as her tools. She didn’t argue. She just moved forward and did what she felt was right, no matter if there were consequences. Marianne was extremely creative and always had new thoughts on what to garden, sew or knit next. She was a very calm, resilient woman who went with the flow as she aged. If you stopped by her house, you would always see Little House on the Prairie or the Gospel channel on her tv or she could be found in her backyard gardening and sitting by a bonfire.

While Marianne’s struggles created barriers and obstacles for her and people in her life, she did the absolute best she could. She rarely complained. You’d never know if she was in pain, because she just dealt with it. She dealt with a lot in her life and she didn’t let any of it hold her back. Her strength and her resilient nature was admirable. She couldn’t be held down. She was an unconventional spirit held captive in a world and time that didn’t understand who she was, but she made the best of it and believed that by following her Catholic roots, she would eventually rest high on the mountain of eternal bliss. She’s now free of all the mental, physical and psychological warfare that she endured on Earth and her angel wings carried her to her heavenly new home.
