Margaret "Margie" was strong, smart, colorful and always very much herself. The oldest of ten children, she became the family matriarch, keeping her siblings connected, sharing news and bringing the family together throughout her life. As a young woman, she left her hometown of Ely, Minnesota, for Milwaukee to study journalism at Marquette University, an early expression of the adventurous spirit and curiosity that stayed with her throughout her life. She worked in advertising, including writing copy for Donaldson's, before spending much of her career teaching middle school English.

Margie loved seeing the world and traveled extensively, first with her husband and later with friends and her sisters. She loved theater and spent many of her younger years acting, including in productions at Lakeshore Players. She remained an enthusiastic theatergoer, especially at the Guthrie and Chanhassen, and also loved the symphony and a challenging game of bridge.

Creative, outspoken and a little mischievous, Margie loved to entertain. She was known for fabulous food, imaginative themed parties and her flair for creating an occasion. She even brought her love of cooking to readers through a popular recipe column in the White Bear Press.

For more than 50 years, St. Jude of the Lake Catholic Church in Mahtomedi was central to Margie's faith and community. She volunteered generously throughout those years, including serving on funeral committees and in many other roles.

Above all, Margie loved her family. She kept people connected, created reasons to gather and brought color, creativity and fun wherever she went.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Margaret at 11 AM on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at St. Jude of the Lake, 700 Mahtomedi Ave, Mahtomedi, MN 55115, with visitation an hour prior at the church.
