Marcella Adeline Olson (Hedrich) Age 94 of White Bear Lake, formerly of Crosby, MN died on July 27, 2026 surrounded by family. Prior to retirement, she worked at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.

Marcella (Marcy) was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1932, at home near Gary, MN in Spring Creek Township. Her parents were Charley and Emma (Zahn) Hedrich. Marcy attended rural school near the farm and later attended public school in Gary, MN where she graduated with a high school diploma in 1950. Following graduation, she worked at various jobs, including at her sister’s restaurant in Erskine, MN.

Marcella first met her future husband, Eugene Roger Olson, when they were children. Following high school, they reconnected when he was home on leave while serving in the United States Army. Marcella and Eugene married on August 25, 1951. After they married, they lived on base at Fort Riley and Marcella worked on the Army base. After Eugene’s honorable discharge, they moved to Rockford, Illinois, to be near members of Eugene’s family. They later returned to Minnesota where they purchased a small farm in Milaca, MN. They also spent time living on a farm in Champlin, MN before moving to Crosby, MN where they built a home and spent most of their married life. Marcella remained in the home after Eugene passed away and spent many happy years with her friends. In approximately 2017, Marcella moved to the northern Twin Cities metro area to be closer to her daughter Karen and her family.

Marcella worked for many years at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in the laundry area and truly enjoyed the small team of coworkers and friends she made at the hospital.

Marcella loved nothing more than spending time with those she loved and was always willing to go on any adventure or try a new restaurant. One of her happiest days was recently when she was flower grandma at her granddaughter Morgan’s wedding to Noah. Marcella stayed healthy by walking at least five miles a day with friends and often turned down a ride, despite inclement weather, so she could walk instead. Marcella was an avid gardener and always had marigolds and geraniums planted around her home and cared for a large vegetable garden for most of her life. Marcella took great pride in her appearance and her home and never missed a weekly hair appointment, wearing perfectly pressed pants and keeping her home so clean you could eat off of the floors. She attended Immanual Lutheran Church in Crosby, MN for most of her life and was active in quilting, the rummage sale and serving at funerals. For many years she was also a proud member of the Red Hat society where she gained lifetime friends. She will be remembered for her kind heart, sassy spirit, strong work ethic, and infectious smile.

Marcella is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law Roger (Maria Herrera) Olson of Fillmore, CA; 3 daughters and sons-in-law Karen (Mark Kerfeld) Olson of North Oaks, MN, Kathleen Bjerkness of Hazen, ND, Deborah (Michael Storey) Olson of Jacksonville, FL; 6 grandchildren Brandon Bjerkness, Tyler Bjerkness, Mark Storey (Misato Utatsu), Morgan Kerfeld (Noah Wagner), Greta Olson, and Christian Olson; 4 great-grandchildren Taylor Aadness (Kenadee), Ingrid Bjerkness, Olaf Bjerkness and Kai Storey, and 2 great-great -grandchildren, Briggs Aadness and Alaya Mae Aadness, two sisters in law, Marlys Nethery and Diane Gibson (Rockford, IL) and many nieces and nephews on both sides.

Marcy is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Roger Olson; and son-in-law, Pedar Bjerkness, her parents, nine sisters, infant Alice, infant Lillie, Irene Gade, Edna Sannes, Lorraine Nelson, Edith Trandem, Dorothy Hanson, Evelyn Von Holdt, and Helen Nelson, and eight brothers Clarence, infant Lloyd, infant Edwin, Conrad, Richard, Walter, Armond and Orville (“Bill”) Hedrich and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 7 at Cerenity Senior Care's Chapel, 1900 Webber St., White Bear Lake with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery - Little Falls.

Any memorials will be used to honor Marcy's memory.
