Listen to Obituary

Kevin John Kaeter, 55, passed away suddenly at his home in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 27, 2026. Kevin was born on October 23, 1970, in Stuttgart, Germany, to his parents Gerald and Claudia (Goltz) Kaeter where he spent the first 6 months of his life. He lived in St. Cloud, Minnesota until he was 7, then spent the rest of his childhood with his brother Clayton in Aurora, Minnesota. Kevin graduated from Mesabi East High School in 1989, then went to Mesabi Community College where he played football for 2 years. Following college, he worked at Northern Lights Sports in Virginia and at Giant's Ridge until finding his calling as an electrical lineman. Kevin was initiated into the IBEW Local Union 160 in 1993 as a Groundman. Kevin became a Journeyman Lineman in 2000, working for the Missouri Valley Outside Construction Unit for 2 years. He was hired on with Xcel Energy in 2003, where he has worked for the last 23 years. Kevin was heavily involved in IBEW Local Union 160. He was an Executive Board Member in 2014 & 2017, and was elected President of his union, a role he proudly served in until his passing. To know Kevin was to love him for his humor, his love of tie-dye shirts, and boisterous personality. He had gifts for storytelling and reading people. Kevin loved being there for others and was always willing to give so much without ever expecting anything in return. Kevin was also very involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he was passionate in helping others work through their addictions. He inspired many people by making deep connections and taking in anyone who needed help, letting them stay with him until they could get back on their feet. Kevin loved being outside. He could be found on a lake (thawed or frozen) for most of his adult life. He went on countless fishing trips, most often with his uncle Jim Goltz, his best friend Adam Anderson, his parents Gerald and Claudia, and his brother Clayton. If he wasn't fishing, he was riding his side-by-sides through the woods near Biwabik, Minnesota. Kevin was very excited to have found the route from Biwabik to Ely, MN. He was a hockey superfan and season-ticket holder of the Minnesota Wild since the team's 2000-2001 inaugural season. Those who had the pleasure of sitting near him got to enjoy such phrases as, "Punch them in the spleen!" "Pass it to their goalie!" "Put the biscuit in the basket!" and "MORE PASSING!" during a power play. Kevin connected with his life partner, Marcy, in 2009 and quickly immersed her into all of his favorite things. He became a "kinda step-dad" to her daughters, and stepped into a father figure role without question. Through Marcy, Kevin met his soul-dog, Boogaard, who loved to go ice fishing with Kevin. Most importantly, Kevin loved being a dad to his daughter, Jayde. He was a proud supporter throughout her years in dance, basketball, softball, and he thought it was very cool when she chose percussion in band. Kevin loved exploring with Jayde around the Twin Cities or going to WIld games together. Kevin is survived by his daughter, Jayde Kaeter; his parents, Gerald & Claudia Kaeter; his brother Clayton (Monica) Kaeter; his niece, Hailey Kaeter; his long-term partner, Marcy Plevell; his "kinda step" children, Jenna (Wade) Bergman, Alexandra (Tim) Sundem, and Joshua Plevell; his step-grandchildren, Sophia, Harvie & Walker; his dogs Hurley & Hazel; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who felt like family, Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel (Josephine) Kaeter and Oliver (Erma) Goltz. A celebration of his life will be held from 4-6 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Ave, White Bear Lake, MN 55110 with a time of memory sharing beginning at 6 PM.
