Listen to Obituary

Kathleen “Kathy" Supan, 82, of White Bear Lake, MN, passed away on March 28, 2026.

From the very beginning, her life was rooted in love and connection—values she would go on to share so freely with others. Kathy was adopted at six months old by her parents, Al and Sophie (Boese) Notch, and grew up along with her adopted siblings, Ceil Schmitt, Herb Notch, Luvern (Notchie) Kirscht, John Notch and Mary Ann Belgarde in Luxemburg, MN. She met George when he came for a visit to Notchie's house. He knew at first sight he would marry Kathy. It was not long after that they were married on June 30th 1964. Together, they raised three lovely children; David (wife Julie), Chris (wife Andrea) and Shelly (husband Joe) Kaufman. They were the pride of their lives, they traveled the world together and created a loving home.

Kathy was the kind of woman whose love showed up in a thousand quiet, everyday ways. As a mother, her hugs would make anyone feel safe and there was always a warm cup of soup waiting and kind kisses there when they were sick. Her love only grew as their family did. Kathy was an amazing grandmother to her five grandkids: Gabi, Grant, Maria, Jacklyn and Aiden. She had the gift of getting them to sit on her lap and wrap them up in comfort and love, and loved nothing more than attending their concerts and sporting events, sending small gifts, and celebrating every moment she could with them.

There were many passions in Kathy’s life. She loved flowers and found joy in her dream job as a florist, but her true passion was always her family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and love. For her friends, especially her cherished Tuesday coffee group, she made sure there was always time to sit, talk and connect. Everyone who stopped by was greeted with wonderful meals and special treats like her famous cinnamon rolls, roast beef, Kringle, and Scotcheroos. She passed down many of her cherished recipes to family and friends, sharing not just food, but pieces of herself. Recently, she taught George how to make her beloved chicken noodle soup, a lesson more than 60 years in the making, knowing that something might be coming. Kathy’s kindness, gentleness, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew her. Her generosity knew no bounds and she gave of herself freely and joyfully. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all who were fortunate enough to experience her warmth, love, and open heart over her 82 years.
