On May 2, 2026, Jonathan Stahley, 25, was taken from us in an instant. He clocked out of work ready to start his weekend and hang out with his girlfriend, Cheyenne. He was riding his beloved Kawasaki motorcycle, his passion for the past year.
Jonathan had so much more life to live and was just coming into his own as an adult and a man, though we all still see him as a baby boy running around with sparklers and shooting silly string. He was a very hardworking man, who loved his job as a forklift operator at the Home Depot in Woodbury.
Jonathan learned values, kindness, sacrifice, and a strong work ethic as a student at Cretin-Derham Hall, where he graduated in 2019. He stayed after school to clean classrooms to help pay his tuition, and even later helped pay for his cousin Lily's tuition, because he wanted her to have the same education he received.
Jonathan had an adventurous spirit from a young age, riding his dirt bike up and down Maria Avenue, before upgrading to a motorcycle. He was also a curious eater and when he was still a teenager, he told his Uncle Dan that he wanted to try octopus, and later that day, they went to Sakura and ate not only the octopus, but also the eel, squid, sea urchin and seaweed salad. His love of sushi lead to a recent trip to Japan with his Aunt Maria. On that trip, he got a dragon tattoo and lived to tell the tale of eating the lethal Fugu blowfish.
Jonathan loved being outside and on his motorcycle. Last summer, he would regularly ride up to International Falls, or Thunder Bay on a Saturday, just because he heard that there was a diner that served good pancakes. He always wanted to ride the Tail of the Dragon stretch of highway in the North Carolina Great Smoky Mountains and mentioned that to his gaming friends. They told him that they lived nearby and that if he ever wanted to make the trip, he could crash at their place. He decided to leave early that morning and arrived at his friends' house in Kentucky that night to surprise them. He spent the day riding the hairpin turns in the mountains and spent the night gaming with his friends. He returned home in the morning but only got to Wisconsin Dells before his chain broke. Luckily, his Mom and Jimmy were able to get to the store just before closing to get a new chain and drive the two and a half hours out to meet Johnny with the tool kit so he could replace the chain and get back home in time for work.
Jonathan's other major passion was video gaming. We all knew that he loved spending his time gaming, but he never mentioned that he was an elite Call of Duty player, at one point being ranked the number 10 player in the world. He had many close friends who knew him as JohnnyX2001.
Jonathan also just got back from an amazing road trip this Spring with his sister Gianna and his Dad. They got to see the St. Louis Arch, the forests in Michigan and spend time at Universal Studios and the beaches in Florida. We were fortunate to make so many more family memories with Johnny on this trip.
More than anything, Jonathan will be deeply missed by all the people whose lives he touched. He was the sweetest, most kind and caring person you would ever know. In 25 years, no one can recall a time that Jonathan was ever angry, yelled, or even used a curse word. Even though he teased his younger sister relentlessly, he loved her endlessly.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his grandfather Gregory and his God Mother Andrea Danielson. He is survived by his father Joseph; his mother Amy (James); his grandparents Pamela and Robert Steffan, Linda Stahley; sister Gianna; step-brother Aston; Uncles Dan (Lorae), Nick, Mike (Sammie), Aunt Maria; and cousins Lily, Lyssa, Aiden and Noah.
A memorial to celebrate Jonathan's life will be held at Mueller Memorial Funeral Home at 835 Johnson Parkway on Saturday May 16, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a service to start at 4 p.m.
