John McQuiston

John Henry McQuiston, age 68, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 23rd.
John Henry McQuiston was born December 9, 1953 in Sandstone, MN to Leo and Ida (Patch) McQuiston. John is preceded in death by his loving wife and highschool sweetheart, Laurie Ann McQuiston (Nelson). He served in the United States Army as a Tactical wire specialist from 1976-1981. John worked for the Army Corps of Engineers as Lock and Dam operator until he retired on December 31st, 2018. Although he had retired, he continued to intermittently work at the Dam for another two years. If he wasn’t working at the lock you could always find him doing some type of handyman work. Anyone who knew John, knew he needed to stay busy. He really started getting into shape. Bike riding was something he really enjoyed, no matter the weather. He set monthly goals and those were usually crushed within the first weeks of the month. This year he even took up snowshoeing, his first time out he went 6 miles. John was one of those you could count on attending family get-togethers, he had 17 brothers and sisters, and a soft spot for the little ones. If ever there was a little one around you could find them in his arms. John's passing will be mourned by his children Chris (Trudy), Cherri (Todd), Christina (John) and Angel; his grandchildren Kailey, Jasmine, Payton, Kristianna, Savannah, Colton and Macey; Michael, Nancy, GeGe and many foster children; his siblings Chuck, Ray, Theresa, Bob, Billy, Terry, Toni, Tina, Tammy and Joyce. John was training for the Minnesota MS 150 bike ride for 2022 so In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to this event. You can donate to his personal fundraising page through this link John H. McQuiston MS 150

If you are unable to attend the funeral mass it will be live streamed to the St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church Website and can be found via this link: https://stmarys-wbl.org/#funeral-service-events
