Listen to Obituary

John P. Giese, 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by the family he cherished above all else. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Maria Luisa, their four children: Marco Antonio (Karen), Zulema (Todd), Juancarlos, Lorena (Ivan), and eight grandchildren: Anna, Emily, Sophia, Theodore, Ivan, Leopold, Rosalie, and Luis, who knew him as the man who always had a book, a joke, and a helping hand ready for whomever needed one.

Proceeded in death by his parents Phillip and Lorraine (Pat) Giese. Survived by his sister Linda Seward, his nephew Thomas James (T.J.) Seward (Laura) and extended family.

A career school librarian, with Masters Degrees in Education and Library Science, John spent his life opening doors for young minds. Countless students passed through his library over the years and still recall the librarian whose wisdom guided them. He brought that same passion home, raising his children to love reading, to respect the outdoors, and to value family above everything.

He was never happier than at the cabin, surrounded by trees and grandkids, or in the kitchen cooking up a feast for everyone to share. Friends and family, alike, knew him for his sharp mind, his boisterous laugh, and his fondness for teasing those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Therese at St. Odilia's Church (Donation Link), where John was so well cared for.

A private interment was held at Resurrection Cemetery. A celebration of John's life is being planned; an update will be posted.
