Joanell Ann Boevers

Joanell Ann Boevers, age 73 of Edina, passed away unexpectedly in her home on October 31, 2026.

Joanell was born on February 12, 1953, in Pocahontas, Iowa. Growing up, she was involved in Girl Scouts, and she carried that spirit of caring and community throughout her life. The family moved to Mankato in 1965 and Joanell graduated from Mankato High School in 1971. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gustavus Adolphus University, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Minnesota in 1979. She went on to build a meaningful career as a psychiatric nurse. This profession that brought her great joy as she held so much care and concern for others. Joanell had a natural gift for connecting with strangers and was known for her kindness, empathy, and genuine compassion. Her caring nature extended well beyond her career, as she also volunteered in the NICU at Southdale Hospital. She always found ways to give her time and heart to others.

Joanell had a love for music, was passionate about social and political issues, and had a special soft spot for animals. She was sociable and never one to pass up an opportunity to strike up a conversation (especially if that person had a dog with them). She was witty, quick to make others chuckle, and just as happy to share in a good laugh herself.

Above all else, Joanell cherished her family. She cared for her children and grandchildren deeply. She took great pride in supporting her children and grandchildren at their many activities and was always happiest cheering them on. They brought her endless joy and smiles.

Joanell is preceded in death by her father, Charles Boevers; her mother, Orlue (née Norland) Boevers Regier; and her stepfather, R.A. Regier. She is survived by her children, Janine of Watertown, MN, and Kieran of Minneapolis, MN; her grandchildren, Malia, Ryan, Delaney, and Finn; her brothers, Bruce (Mary) Boevers and Brian (Sara) Boevers; along with many other family members and dear friends.

A Memorial Service honoring Joanell's life will be held at 2 PM on Friday, November 20, 2026, at MUELLER MEMORIAL, 835 Johnson Parkway, Saint Paul, MN. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, and a reception will follow. Please join the family and feel free to share some of your favorite memories of Joanell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Animal Humane Society.
