Listen to Obituary

Joan M. Eckert, age 75, of Hugo, MN passed away Oct 8 at St. John's Hospital after a three- year heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born April 1, 1950 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Melvin (Mel) Cordie and Doloris Cordie (Stich).

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Michael Eckert; and father, Melvin (Mel) Cordie.

She is survived by her two children, Shawn Eckert and Tracy Corcoran; mother, Doloris Cordie; sister, Deborah Himes (Pete); brother, Robert Cordie (Lisa); her grandchildren Landon Eckert, Connor Corcoran, Sam Corcoran, Crisanna Novotny (Nate Worden), and Cora Albright; and very dear friends Sue Glenna and James Axel.

Joan grew up in Newport, Minnesota with a large family of cousins and enjoyed being a role model to many and her trips to St. Cloud. She moved to Mahtomedi, Minnesota where she raised her children in faith, values, and with compassion. She enjoyed a long nursing career as an RN working at hospitals, and in the home health care field. She lived for her family and as a grandmother could not get enough of watching her grandchildren playing sports. She was always their biggest fan. She was an avid animal lover and, like all of the Cordie family, was always accompanied by a beloved dog. She will be described by all as a sweet, compassionate, and loving person, mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed by all.

A celebration of life will be scheduled in the spring so out of town family and friends will be able to attend if desired. The family will reach out to everyone when arrangements are made.
