Jessica “Jessi” Marie Hinrichs (Pierce), 38, tragically passed away on March 21, 2026, along with her three children: Hudson, Cayden, and Avery.
Jessi was born on September 28, 1987, in Maplewood, MN, to parents John and Kim Pierce. After a brief residence in North Saint Paul, MN, Jessi and her family moved to Mahtomedi, MN, where she grew up and attended school. After proudly graduating from Mahtomedi High School, she attended Iowa State University to pursue Journalism and Mass Communications. After Iowa State, she interned with USA Hockey in Colorado Springs, CO.
In the fall of 2016, Jessi married Michael “Mike” Hinrichs. Together, they had three children: Hudson James, Cayden Louis, and Avery Jo Hinrichs. Jessi was an amazing wife and mother. Being a mother came naturally to Jessi and brought her immeasurable happiness.
From her elaborate holiday decorations and themed clothing for the family, to constant trips up north, to town events, playgrounds, nature walks, and anything else she could find going on, Jessi always made sure the family was out making memories together. She loved spending time with her family and friends and always wanted to be around the people she loved.
Jessi was the brightest light of any room she was in. She was like the sun, bringing light and warmth to anyone she was near. She had the gift of gab and was always introducing herself and talking to anyone in a room, making them feel welcome. She was so funny and would do almost anything for a laugh.
Jessi was incredibly driven and determined. She set out to create the life she dreamed of and a career in hockey and was not going to be told she couldn’t do it. She worked with USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey before landing her dream job covering the Minnesota Wild for NHL.com, which she did impressively for 10 years. She brought a depth of knowledge, a passion for helping to grow the game, and a fearless sense of self to her work.
Jessi could often be found talking hockey on many different podcasts. In 2019, Jessi started her own hockey podcast called Bardown Beauties, covering all things Minnesota Wild as well as other hockey-related content. Jessi brought sharp insight, hilarious commentary, and her signature sunshine to every episode.
Jessi was an incredibly generous person and always wanted to help others. She enjoyed volunteering at various hockey-related foundations, made time to help others wanting to pursue similar careers, letting them job shadow her, joining their podcasts, or anything else to help them.
Jessi is survived by her husband, Michael Hinrichs; her parents, John and Kim Pierce, and mother-in-law, Donna Hinrichs; brothers, Rich (Kristy) Pierce and Nick Pierce; grandfather, Clinton Clark; sisters-in-law, Mary Hinrichs and Melissa Hinrichs; brother-in-law, Jonah Hinrichs; nephews, Johnny and David Pierce; and niece, Olivia Hinrichs.
She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ervin Hinrichs; grandparents, Jim “Papa” and JoAnn “Gamma” Sirois; grandparents, Chuck and Dale Pierce; grandmother, Darlene Clark; and brother-in-law, Aaron Hinrichs.
