Jean Hammar

Jean Ann (Barclay) Hammar, 79, of St. Paul passed away in New Ulm, July 4, 2020 from natural causes. She was born to the late James and E. Alice Barclay December 8, 1940 in West Liberty, Iowa. She graduated valedictorian of West Liberty High School and received a BA in Home Economics from Iowa State University in 1963. She married W. James Hammar in 1963 and they made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota. Jean is survived by four children: Michael (Becky) Hammar, of Pleasant Hill, IA; Christine (Dave) Rosenhamer, of New Ulm, MN; Kathleen (Steve) Hrubecky, of Neenah, WI; Kimberly (Andy) Holak, of Duluth, MN. She is survived by eleven grandchildren: Derek and Riley Hammar, Allison, Anthony, Michelle, and Daniel Rosenhamer, Jacob and Kyle Hrubecky, Abigail (fiancé Philip Young), Bryce, and James Holak. She is also survived by sisters: Mary (Chuck) Enright of Simi Valley, CA; Betty Nelson of Los Osos, CA; brother-in-laws: William Hammar, of Parkersburg, IA; Joseph (Nancy) Hammar, of New Hartford, IA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 1999, parents, brothers Bob and John Barclay, sister-in-law Jackie Barclay, and nephews Steve and Doug Barclay. Jean’s passions in life were her faith, her family, and her flowers. She was a member of St. Pascal Baylon Parish in St. Paul and expressed her faith by providing floral creations, supporting church activities, delivering meals on wheels, and serving Saturday breakfasts at a local shelter. Her love for family and friends was evident during many adventures, gatherings and travels. Jean spent many years serving as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Como Park Conservatory to share her connection with people who love plants and flowers. Her flower gardens at her home were her sanctuary, her personal joy, and to us, a beautiful expression of her gift of a green thumb. Blessed be her memory. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral service and burial will take place Friday, July 10th. You can watch the livestream of the Mass at https://youtu.be/IaVz2KE54iY. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held for all friends and family Friday, July 10th from 12:30pm to 2:30 pm at BATTLE CREEK REGIONAL PARK. A boxed luncheon will be provided.
