Jason R. Woitas-Roen (29), of St. Paul, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2026.
Jason was the son of Thomas (Tommy) and Tammy Roen. Known by many as JJ, he was born on June 2, 1997, at Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
JJ had a kind spirit and always wanted to be included. Although he was burdened with a series of health issues, JJ always had a huge smile on his face. He loved being with family and found it especially amazing that he was both a big brother and a little brother. He was a good friend and his tender-hearted character was admirable.
JJ had a love for books, sometimes reading the same book multiple times. He talked often about his books and shared the stories with everyone. When most kids get in trouble, you take away their toys, but for JJ it was his books. He was always excited to see new movies coming out, had an amazing memory, and loved anything related to SpongeBob. When he flapped his "wings", you knew he was excited. JJ always had a special way of connecting with each person individually. He was incredibly proud of his beard and worked with multiple family members learning new skills, while brushing up on his game show TV. He was loved deeply by everyone who knew him.
JJ is survived by his mother, Tammy Roen; and his siblings, Jamie (John) Joyce, Samantha (Randy) Thomas, Thomas Jr. (Katie) Roen, Taylor Roen, Soleena Jimenez, Guadalupe Jimenez, and Steven Jimenez. As well as his nieces and nephews, Rodney, Parker, Colton, Hayden, Landon, Morgan, Edith, and Remington. He is also survived by his grandmother, Agnes Grosz; multiple aunts and uncles; and (40+) first and second cousins.
JJ is preceded in death by his Papa, Tommy Roen; Grandparents, Lyle & Beverly Roen and Benedict Grosz. He is also preceded in death by aunts, Judy Williamson & Kim Elsenpeter; uncle, Robert Grosz; and cousin, Allie Jo Luhman.
A Celebration of Life will take place from 5-8pm on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Mueller Memorial Funeral Home, 835 Johnson Parkway in St. Paul, with a Prayer Service starting at 6pm.
