Janice Kohler

Janice D. Kohler of White Bear Lake, 88, passed away on January 10, 2021, surrounded by her family. Private, family service will be held. Mrs. Kohler was born Janice Darlene Hall in Conde, South Dakota on May 14, 1932 to Frank J. Hall and Sara Gleason Hall. She will be remembered by many for her hospitality and generosity. She loved getting people together and welcomed everyone into her home. She knew many of her neighbors and community members and has been a member of St Mary’s of the Lake since 1940 when she was 8 years old. St. Mary’s has been a cornerstone of Jan’s entire life, from her schooling to her wedding, and she and many of her family members were active in the church for the rest of her life. Jan loved living at The Waters assisted living facility, where she was loved and cared for, and where she could keep an eye on the family and their businesses; across the street at the family members working at the White Bear Lake Superstore, the old Kohler Mix by the DQ, and within a short distance of the great pies from Joseph’s Restaurant in Stillwater. She had 8 children, and loved to cook and learn recipes from her mother, Grandma Sara. These recipes and traditions have been passed down to the next generations, and she always kept treats for her grandkids (and they always knew where to find them). She was a loving, kind, and happy person, and people loved to be around her. Mrs. Kohler was preceded in death by husband, Clifford M. Kohler; brothers, Jim Hall, Robert Hall, Don Hall, and Frank Hall, Jr; and sisters, Dorothy Levasseur and Charlotte Conlin. She is survived by her children, Jim (Joanne) Kohler, Joe, Sr. (Mary) Kohler, Judy (Todd) King, Dave (JoEllen) Kohler, Rick (Mary Kay) Kohler, Kathy (Lee) Gatrell, Jeanne (Dave) Johnson, and Mary Lou (Mike) Plourde, as well as by siblings, Dick (Judy) Hall, MaryAnn Charpentier, Kathleen Hall, Steve (Patty) Hall, Jerry Hall, sister-in-law Donna Hall, sister-in-law Pat Hall, and sister-in-law Marcella (Marv) Cocchiarella. Janice had 27 grandchildren and 39 Great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Special thanks to The Waters of White Bear Lake, where she was loved and cared for, and especially to Zoe and Misty, who kept her laughing and looking her best. Thank you to Kindred Hospice care for providing guidance and support. Memorials preferred to St. Mary of the Lake Church. LIVESTREAM INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Go to https://stmarys-wbl.org/ 2.
