Guadalupe Vega Puente
"Lupe"
August 19, 1935 - May 22, 2026
Guadalupe (Lupe) was born in Rodriquez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Valentin and Isac Vega on August 19,1935. The family immigrated to the United States when Lupe was just a child and settled in Carrizo Springs, Dimmit County, Texas. Lupe grew up in Carrizo Springs where she met her future husband, Dionicio (Nicho) Duran Puente. Lupe and Nicho were married on April 21,1950 and settled in Carrizo Springs, where Lupe gave birth to 11 children. In 1970, Nicho and Lupe settled in Saint Paul, Minnesota where they made their home and celebrated their 75th anniversary in April 2025 after which Nicho passed away unexpectedly that same month at the age of 98 years old. Lupe retired as a housewife but she was more than that. From their early married Nicho and Lupe were migrant farmworkers and as their family grew they traveled with their children seeking farmwork to make a living. Lupe was a great mother and loved her children very much. She loved to cook and there were many special dishes she learned to cook for them and eventually taught them how to cook for themselves. But it was never the same. We will miss her cooking and her love. Lupe enjoyed many hobbies outside of cooking and cleaning the house. She loved to visit and stay in touch with her extended family, she loved to color with her children and grandchildren when they were young, to sew, play "loteria", (Mexican bingo), watch games shows on TV, gardening, she loved her flowers, and shopping at secondhand stores which we call "segundas". Lupe passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old. Lupe is survived by daughters; Olga (Ernesto) Zuniga, Catalina Borja, Marta Puente, and Dora Alicia Puente; sons, Dionicio Jr. (Jacqueline) Puente, Eduardo (Carol Hall) Puente, Lorenzo (Linda) Puente, Ernesto (Berta) Puente and Jorge Puente; 33 Grandchildren; 71 Great-Grand Children and counting; and 1 sibling.
Lupe is preceded in death by her husband Nicho, her sons; Luis, Armando; daughter, Guadalupe; granddaughters Noemi Avila, and Nikki Lopshire and grandsons Napoleon Fuentes, Jose Puente and 5 Siblings.
Lupe will be missed by his immediate and extended family and many friends. Rest in Peace, Lupe.
