Beloved Wife, Mom & Grandma

Gerry Boerner was born on February 15, 1947 in Eureka, South Dakota to Adolph and Martha Retzer. She and her three siblings Duane (Arlene), Kenny (Barb) and Sue were raised in Fosston, MN. She graduated in 1965 and went on to further her education focusing on secretarial skills.

Gerry married Skip Hauger and had 2 children, Kim (Matt) McCain, Pella IA and their son Bryce, daughter Devin (Cody) Walter their daughter Freya. Shawn (Christy) Hauger , Polk City and their sons Grant, Alex and Cole.

Gerry later met Larry Boerner and married him.on October 1, 1986. With this marriage Gerry gained 2 step daughters Jenny (Brian) Sprenger, St. Paul, MN and her children Lindsey (Mike ), Jackie (Brett) Boser and their daughter Evie, Susan (Greg) Volek, New Braunfels, TX and her son Ryan (Amy) Simonson and children Tytus and Aubrey.

Gerry spent her career as a legal secretary retiring from the law firm Linquist and Vennum. After retiring she loved to spend her time traveling, being a snowbird going back and forth between her homes in MN and AZ. She enjoyed crafting and playing bingo. Gerry loved her friends and family dearly and would make time to go to her grandchildren's events.

She passed quietly on April 4th after having battled the awful disease of Aphasia for nearly 7 years. While she is going to be greatly missed by many, we are so thankful that she is no longer struggling.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Christina Orde and her staff for taking such amazing care of Gerry and giving her such a good quality of life.

Gerry is preceded in death by her parents Martha and Adolph Retzer, her sister Sue McGrath and her grandson Grant Hauger.

Survived by husband Larry; children Kim McCain (Matt), Shawn Hauger (Christy), Jenny Sprenger (Brian) & Susan Volek (Greg); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers Duane Retzer (Arlene) & Kenny Retzer (Barb) and other relatives & friends. Geraldine was Larry's love of his life and will be missed by her family and all who knew her. 

Service Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11:00 am with visitation starting at 10:00 at MUELLER MEMORIAL, 835 Johnson Parkway. Interment Union Cemetery, Maplewood.
