Douglas Walburg, age 74, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth; brothers, Mark and Bruce; and his brother-in-law, Paul Tiemann. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28th from 10am-11am at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, with funeral service starting at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Andrews Community Resource Center or Coco's Heart Dog Rescue.
Doug had an incredible penchant for finding fun in life and was happiest when he pulled other people along into an adventure. He was fiercely competitive and a sportsman. He loved fishing for walleye and hunting pheasant. Doug was an avid golfer, played approximately 20,000 lifetime rounds, and won multiple club championships at Dellwood Country Club. He loved skiing and was always the first to the chairlift. He even invented his own sports, such as Walburg Flying and the family's Fourth of July Olympics, a tradition for 38 years. He was particularly skilled at the rope licorice eating contest. Doug wasn't known for his cooking, but specialized in Swedish pancakes and frequently hosted pancake eating contests for the neighborhood kids. For Doug, almost anything could become a contest, but the best prize was always having a good time with family and friends.
