Deborah Lynn Masanz, "Deb", 69 of Little Canada, passed away on Thursday, January 25, after a long battle with COPD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Irene Giampaolo; and uncle, Michael Giampaolo. All of which she lovingly and selflessly cared for in their final years.
Deb is survived by her son, Ryan; sister, Suzanne Greenwalt (Robert Thomas); nieces, Molly Moy, Kelly Greenwalt, and Sarah Thor; 7 grandnieces; Chuck Masanz, father of Ryan and half siblings Mark and Jason.
Deb was an avid reader and gardener, her happiness was found taking care of her flowers, her patio oasis and spending summers in her porch. She delighted in entertaining loved ones and Christmas was always a very special time for her. A true collector at heart, Deb found joy in the thrill of acquiring unique treasures, often scouring eBay to find that special item to add to her collection. She also enjoyed dining out, a family tradition, especially to her favorite places she enjoyed growing up.
She thrived in her prime, always talking about the mischief she got into with a smile, pushing others to go out and have some fun. Deb was also an encyclopedia for nostalgia. She cared deeply about her family, their roots, and recalled details, names, and dates instantly. She had a great appreciation for what came before her, enjoyed classic movies, old photos, and stories from anyone.
In addition to her passions, Deb was a trailblazer in her career and shattered glass ceilings throughout her professional journey. Starting at an entry level position to managing finance as Controller for Metro Systems Furniture, she displayed unwavering dedication and exceptional growth. Navigating the transition from paper bookkeeping to digital, she was both managing accounting and pushing through the early days of computer technology.
She maintained her very unique brand of strong will as her days became harder and even managed to stop smoking. While she could do less physically, mentally she was as sharp as ever, and you did not want to cross her on social media. Often switching between Twitter and Facebook Jail, she would joyfully guide others to a more enlightened opinion. All while munching on a Pepperidge Farm cookie (Double Chocolate Nantucket).
A memorial service to celebrate Deb will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 6:30 pm at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Pkwy, St. Paul, MN 55106, with visitation beginning at 4:00 PM.
