David W. O'Brien

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of David W. O'Brien, age 74, of Hugo, Minnesota, on August 11, 2026.

The son of Daniel and Lola O'Brien and one of eight children, David was born and raised in Kasson, Minnesota. He fell in love with music at a young age and loved reminiscing about his early years performing with his band, Lemon Meringue. His passion for music remained with him throughout his life.

After high school, David attended college, but put his education on hold when he started a family. Decades later, he returned to school and took great pride in earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Metropolitan State University in his 50s.

David's faith was strong, and he cared deeply about God, his family, and his country. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and often said that his grandchildren were his reward in life. He cherished every moment spent with them and loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family. But his greatest love in life, second only to God, was his beloved Susie, whom he lovingly referred to as "the love of his life."

David loved reminiscing about his lifelong friends from Kasson and the wild parties on the third floor of his parents' house. He treasured his childhood and the memories he made growing up surrounded by his brothers, sisters, and parents. He also cherished the many years spent at the O'Brien family lake home on West Leaf Lake in Henning, Minnesota, where countless wonderful memories were made with family.

Those who knew David will remember his remarkable gift for connecting with people and touching their lives. He found genuine joy in getting to know others and forming meaningful friendships. During his time with Total Luxury Limousine, he often spoke with pride about the privilege of driving Make-A-Wish recipients and being a small part of something so meaningful in their lives.

Many of David's friendships lasted a lifetime, and he had a profound impact on the lives of the people who knew him. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his faith, his friendships, his music, his stories, and his ability to make connections with people wherever he went.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life for David will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosetown American Legion Post 542, 700 County Road C West, Roseville, Minnesota.

Family and friends are invited to gather for an afternoon of food, fellowship, music, gospel readings, and memories. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to share a favorite story or memory of David, as well as opportunities for friends and family to share songs and music in his memory.
