Carol Jean Oberholtzer

Day of birth---Day of rebirth in Christ

It’s the dashes in between that matter most.

Carol Jean Oberholtzer (Moore) passed away peacefully in her home in Roswell, New Mexico, of a tired heart. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Paul. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Liz, and siblings Fran, R. John, Tom, Cindy, Carl, and Evie.

She leaves behind her children: Ada (John) Dow, Jeff (Marie), Amy (Imran) Rahman, and Brian (Holly).

Grandchildren: Amber Jean, Paige, Danny, David, Madeline, Johnny, Sarah, Alexis (Chris), Adam, Noah, Abby Jo, Sam, Jack (Amber), Kia, Ashley, Jacob, Jordan, and James.

Great-grandchildren: Louis, Margaret, Olivia, Xander, and Isla.Siblings/in-laws: Joe (Margaret) Moore, Nancy (Dieter) Patraw, Jim (Dee) Moore, Bill (Barb) Moore, John Moore, Jody Moore, Bob Moore, Judy (Dave) Darling, and Steve (Maureen) Moore.

Carol and her eleven siblings grew up in Hugo, Minnesota. She graduated from Forest Lake High School and spent her early years as a caregiver within her family. She was always someone others could rely on.

Her life took a beautiful turn when she met Paul, the love of her life. From their first date on, they were never apart in their hearts, and their small family quickly grew into something wonderful. As her children grew, so did her joy, as more and more people joined the family over the years—including their beloved 25-year-old cockatiel, Chico. One of Paul and Carol’s shared passions was playing cribbage and spending time fishing, which often resulted in a family fish fry gathering filled with laughter and stories.

Her heart expanded with each new addition, and it grew even fuller when she became a Grandma and then a GiGi. She truly felt her cup runneth over.

Carol had a heart of gold—caring deeply for everyone she knew and impacted countless lives. She always believed that God gave her that heart, guided her steps, and would one day ask for it back. When the time came, she trusted fully in His will and let Him take the wheel.

Carol and Paul were longtime members of Christ the King in Minnesota, where they were active in parish life and formed many lasting friendships. After moving to Roswell, they became devoted members of St. Mark’s Church, which quickly became their second home. She served at the altar for many years, finding deep purpose in that ministry.

Above the sanctuary door hangs a sign: “WORSHIP IS OVER, NOW THE SERVICE BEGINS.” Now it is our turn to let God guide our hearts, to follow her example, and to live with the same kindness, compassion, and love that she so freely shared.

She will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched.
