Carol Rose Engelking (Gerten)

Carol Rose Engelking (Gerten), age 94 of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026. 

Carol grew up on her parents' Maplewood farm. Active in 4H, she learned about agriculture and hard work by helping out at home. She attended St. Agnes High School where she played basketball and met her lifelong friends aka "Club." Together they went to dances, parties, and drive-in movies. Carol worked as a bookkeeper and later married fellow Aggie Jim Engelking, settled on St. Paul's East Side, and had six kids. She gave them great childhoods-after-school cookies, late-night pizza, strawberry picking, even HORSE in the driveway. Carol and Jim grew roses, burying them each fall to guard against Minnesota's rough winters. Carol volunteered for the St. Pascal's Women's Club and loved bridge. In retirement, she and Jim escaped each winter to Panama City, Florida. No matter where she was, Carol rooted for the Gophers and Minnesota's pro teams. A devoted grandma, she put cards, dominoes, and mixing spoons in grandkids' hands. Funny, kind, and easy to love. Best mom ever!

Preceded in death by husband, Jim Engelking Sr. Survived by children Jim Jr. (Betsy), Pat (Craig Bachman), Jeanne (Jeff Schneider), Mike (Wendy McGraw), Paula (Jeff Peck), and Rob (Laura Linn); brother Bill Gerten (Nancy); 14 grandchildren; many family and friends.

Visitation 5-7 PM on 9/23 at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Pkwy, St. Paul. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM on 9/24 at St. Pascal Baylon, 1757 Conway St., St. Paul with visitation at 9:30 AM.
