Betty Nelson

Betty “Boop” A. (Olson) Nelson, age 90, formerly of White Bear Lake, MN.,passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2024 at Edgewood Assisted Living in Brainerd, MN where she had resided for the last two years. She was born Nov. 17, 1933 in St. Paul, MN to Bernard and Amanda (Anderson) Olson.

She married Gerald D. Nelson in 1953, and they had five sons, raising them in White Bear Lake. In her lifetime, she served in her community as a Den mother and also sold Avon. She was trained as a chef after her children were grown and worked at Bobbie's in the Park in White Bear Lake and the Mermaid restaurant in Mounds View. Betty enjoyed collecting cookbooks which she shared with family, friends and her church. She spent most of her adult life in White Bear Lake and was active in the Women's Jaycees. Betty and Gerry were members of the American Legion in White Bear Lake.

She is survived by her sons, Mark, John (Nancy), and, David (Mary). Seven grandchildren, Christopher, Jessy, Emily, Matthew, Michael, Tony and Samantha, and 2 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry and two sons, Roger and Bradley. Two brothers, Earl (Marge) Olson, Robert (Ramona) Olson, two sisters, Lorraine (Harvey) Anderson and Annamarie Olson, one nephew, Rhett Olson.

She was committed to her family and her friends and will be dearly missed. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Christ the King, 1660 Birch Lake Ave, White Bear Lake, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at Union Cemetery in White Bear Lake.

This is an updated, revised obituary June 2025, and since her passing, she has lost another son David in November 2024.
