Dodds, Andrew Richard
Age 69 of Saint Paul, MN, passed away unexpectedly from various medical challenges on May 16, 2025.
Preceded in death by parents Roger and Joan Dodds, sisters Christine and Julie Dodds, and brother Joseph Dodds. Survived by sisters Gini Dodds (Curt Almsted) and Betsy (Steven) Ganz, niece Stephanie (Ryan) Goetz, nephew Kyle Ganz, and several cousins and friends.
Graduate of Mahtomedi High School 1973 where he played varsity basketball and baseball (left-handed pitcher called Big A!) and Lakewood College 1975. Real estate broker and VP with Plus 4 Realty until early retirement due to medical challenges. Active member in many churches, most recently, The Way and the Recovery Church. Volunteer with Big Brother. Speaker/fundraiser for AA, mental illness and traumatic brain injury groups.
Andy struggled with depression/anxiety and chemical dependency much of his life, requiring several hospitalizations and supportive housing placements. After finding the right mix of medications, he was able to live independently in his own apartment at the Hamline HiRise for seniors. He achieved sobriety in 1999 through AA and was very active in that organization by speaking and sponsorship of new members. Despite his challenges, he was able to help many people throughout his life, spiritually, emotionally and financially. Dane Smith wrote a great article about Andy’s life and accomplishments:
Andy’s surviving family takes comfort in the fact that Andy had a close and lasting relationship with Jesus Christ and ‘walked the talk’ all of the years of his life by helping others in need.
Special thanks to his lifelong friends Robb Olson and Gary Kastner for their love and support over the years. Andy also cherished the loving community living at the Hamline HiRise in the Midway area of Saint Paul. The family would also like to thank the anonymous donor who funded many of Andy’s volunteer activities over the years.
