Alice Mary was born March 15, 1923 to Fred and Caroline (Carrie) Peterson in Faribault, Minnesota. She was “Sis” to her older brother, Raymond, and they remained close all their lives. Alice’s work in the St. Paul Public Schools Food Service was special to her. Here she showed her love and concern for elementary school children and school personnel every school day. She showed her love for family and friends through the good food and hospitality she shared with them. Her family recalls wonderful holiday gatherings and her delicious foods. She also enjoyed sewing. In school Alice formed strong friendships with six girls; they remained close their whole lives. One girlfriend introduced her to Francis Klemann from Webster, Wisconsin, whom she married May 17, 1947. Their first child, David, was born April 6, 1948; their daughter, Judy, was born April 12, 1951. In April, 1956, Fran died from a sudden massive heart attack. Alice, at 33, was a single parent with two small children. Years later, another girlfriend introduced her to Carl Wintheiser who became her second husband in August, 1966. They and David and Judy settled on Bush Ave. in St. Paul. On December 18, 1967, Richard (Rick) Wintheiser was born. Judy, David, and Rick eventually married and she received her fervent wish - grandchildren. Her husband Carl died in 2004. She remained in her home with help from Home Instead and Mary Ann until August 2017 when she entered Ramsey County Care Center in Maplewood due to health decline. There she received loving care until her passing Sunday, August 30, 2020. Alice leaves behind six grandchildren: Kristen and Erica (David’s); Joel and Andrew (Judy’s); and Mykala and Kyle (Rick’s,) and four great grandchildren, Evelyn and Emilia (Erica’s) and Hunter and Harper (Joel’s) whom she loved dearly. Alice, you are our inspiration. We love you. Rest in peace. Private family mass and interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family would prefer a mass to be said in her memory.
